Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION: The Hospital Coder Level I uses clinical coding knowledge, based on the Official Coding Guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic, to assign ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT codes to the highest level of accuracy for each Emergency Department and/or Diagnostic encounter. This position will work closely with physicians, clinical documentation improvement specialist, quality, and patient finance staff. This position plays a key role in billing, research, internal and external reporting, and regulatory compliance. The incumbent will ensure accuracy of APCs and appropriate extraction of core data into HIM abstracting system to data warehouse repository.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent . 2 years hospital outpatient coding. CCS-P; CPC; RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H; CCA. Must complete coding proficiency evaluation. Anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical pharmacology, basic PC skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks
