Postdoctoral Fellow positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Zhexing Wen at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emory University School of Medicine. The research of Dr. Wen’s laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorders. In particularly, we are interested in using patient-derived induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to elucidate the biological functions of causal/risk genes in neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, identify pathological developmental processes that may contribute to the etiology of these complex diseases, and translate such knowledge into therapeutic targets for developing novel treatments. The work involves the application of multidisciplinary approaches including generation of human non-integrated iPSCs, genome editing via CRISPR/Cas9, differentiation of human iPSCs into disease-related cell types such as cortical glutamatergic neurons and astrocytes, generation of 3D cerebral organoids, transcriptome/proteome analyses, single-cell technologies, as well as molecular biology, immunohistochemical, fluorescence imaging and electrophysiology. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and will be expected to exhibit a strong work ethic, individual initiative, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team on research projects.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will plan and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, further develop presentation and writing skills, and publish scientific manuscripts.
