Job Description:


  • Manages and has oversight over senior faculty appointments, promotions, and the processing of tenure for the School of Medicine (SOM) faculty, and reports to the Director for Faculty Administration with additional direct interactions with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, as necessary.

  • In the absence of the Director, has oversight for office operations and supervision of office staff.

  • Conducts long-range planning for and monitors successful completion of reviews by the Faculty Committee on Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure (FCAP) and the Medical Educator and Service Track (MEST). Disseminates complex information and provides direction regarding the review process to Department Chairs, Department Administrators, faculty, the Council of Chairs (COC) and FCAP, and external evaluators for problem resolution.

  • Trains staff across the 28 SOM academic departments regarding procedures for submission and review of senior appointments and promotions. Ensures all materials are prepared and distributed for FCAP and COC meetings, and for tenure actions to the Provost's Office.

  • Interprets complex SOM and University policy language to guide and train, problem-solve, and make and communicate decisions on complex matters to SOM's highest-level administrators and committees.

  • Participates in the drafting of revisions for SOM policies and procedures governing faculty appointments and promotions.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • A bachelor's degree and three years of academic, administrative, programmatic or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Experience in a lead or supervisory role desirable.
