Associate Chief Nurse Officer, Physician Division

Location: The Emory Clinic, 1365 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30322

We are seeking a capable Associate Chief Nurse Officer / ACNO who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients, and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population.

  • The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) is responsible for overseeing day to day clinical operations and patient flow for Emory Healthcare (EHC) hospitals or Physician Group Practice sites.

  • The ACNO is accountable for successful implementation of initiatives in support of the nursing annual operating plan and core nursing care delivery systems.

  • This oversight includes successful achievement of clinical quality outcomes and patient/family experiences.

  • The ACNO is responsible for deploying entity goals, adequate and appropriate staffing resources, managing budgetary expectations, maintaining regulatory readiness and mentoring and coaching direct reports.

  • Reporting to the entity CNO, the ACNO serves as a member of the senior leadership team for nursing. Serves in the absence of the CNO.

  • Specific expectations are as follows: Strategic Planning: Participate in the development and implementation of the nursing strategic plan aligned with the overall EHC nursing strategic plan.

  • Implement nursing related elements of the entity specific annual operating plan.

  • Determine avenues to improve the value (qualitative and quantitative) of care and services.

  • Leadership: Provide vision, direction, and leadership to departments within Nursing in concert with Chief Nursing Officer.

  • Leads program planning, implementation, and evaluation efforts for areas of responsibility both at strategic and tactical level.

  • Maintain personal development plan and provide management development and coaching for other members of the team.

  • Represent EHC at state, local and national level through involvement in professional associations and organizations.

  • Participate in community service.

  • Human Resources Management: Assure adequate quality and number of staff by assuring adherence to department productivity measures.

  • Maintain a focus on internal talent management and retention.

  • Meet or exceed yearly goals for vacancy and turnover rate.

  • Complete evaluations within the allotted timeframe.

  • Assure that staff and unit directors/practice leaders are actively engaged in unit and organizational professional governance activities as reflected in the minutes and other related documents.

  • Financial Management: Assure financial accountability for annual operating and capital expenditures and budgets.

  • Meet yearly goals for contribution margin, percent variance from budget and overtime rate.

  • Assure efficiencies in staffing and resource utilization by comparison with internal and external benchmarks as measured by productivity units appropriate for areas managed.

  • Performance Improvement/Safety: Continually assess and improve the performance of care and services provided.

  • Assures continual readiness for regulatory compliance.

  • Maintains an environment that promotes a safety culture.

  • Supports performance improvement activities.

  • Meets annual quality and safety goals as defined by the EHC balance scorecard.

  • Ensures a high level of customer service, including patient and family centered initiatives.

  • Facilitates the development and implementation of evidence-based practice and quality efforts.

  • Drives research in associated area of responsibility.

  • Technology: Oversees appropriate use of technology in the delivery of nursing care through optimization of available tools and platforms.

  • Integrates nursing, its information, knowledge, and management with information and communication technologies to promote care delivery.

  • Seeks innovative ways to leverage technology, data science and predictive modeling in the development of care delivery and process improvement efforts.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Sustains a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

  • Evaluate area of responsibility for compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Identify best practices as well as deficiencies to share with peers and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Participate in the development of corrective action plans to guide needed and sustainable improvements.

  • Work with nursing department leaders, Quality Management and accreditation specialist to improve staff competency, compliance and documentation.

  • Enhance relationships to promote interdisciplinary involvement and knowledge of compliance standards, status, and actions.

  • Track laws, regulations and standards that may affect practice and policies.

  • Work with direct reports to insure that needed changes are made by the effective date of any change(s) in requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree required.

  • Doctorate in nursing preferred.

  • If Master's degree is other than nursing, must have a BSN.

  • 10 years of progressive nursing experience with a minimum of five years of progressive administrative experience required.

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia or able to obtain a Georgia license.

  • Certification in nursing administration and/or area of expertise required.

  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated competency in nursing practice including care delivery models, care coordination and labor management.

  • Demonstrated expertise in self-directed problem analysis and project management.

  • Expertise in evidence based practice, budget development, budget management, regulatory readiness, and innovative solution development.

  • Excellent public speaking skills with stellar verbal/written communication skills.

  • High level critical thinking, negotiation, and decision making skills are essential.

  • Must be able to comprehend and interpret policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

  • Is able to meet the expectations of multiple constituencies with service-oriented philosophy.

  • Must be effective in matrix management.
