The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine is currently accepting applications for up to four, 1-year Fellowship positions in Advanced Pelvic Surgery which begins in July 2023. The Fellowship in Advanced Pelvic Surgery at Emory University provides postgraduate Obstetrician-Gynecologists the opportunity to develop advanced surgical expertise working side-by-side with the Division’s team of gynecologic oncologists who perform a broad range of abdominal, vaginal, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries, including robotic procedures. The majority of the fellow’s time would be devoted to the completion of training in Advanced Pelvic Surgery including the management of complex surgical cases on the Gynecologic Oncology Service. Fellows will also participate in a full range of outpatient clinical activities and share in weekend and holiday call responsibilities. The Fellows will receive clinical and surgical training and provide inpatient and outpatient services at Emory University Hospitals, Clinics, Grady Memorial Hospital and other affiliated sites. Fellows will attend a weekly Tumor Board and weekly Grand Rounds, have access to clinical research protocols. The Fellows participate in the teaching mission and work with students, residents, and peers and are expected to demonstrate outstanding activity in the teaching aspects of the Department. Specifically, this would include:

  • Providing lectures to residents and medical students as requested by the Residency Program Director and the Medical Clerkship Director.

  • Attendance and participation in teaching conference and teaching rounds.

  • Attendance at Grand Rounds and Division meetings.

  • Preceptorship of medical students.

  • Participation in resident and fellow interviews.

Fellows have a junior faculty appointment in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and are expected to serve the University in areas of teaching, research, and clinical service appropriate to their professional training and capabilities and their career goals. The fellow’s primary clinical responsibility would be participation in all the clinical activities of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology.

  • Fellows are attending physicians and would be expected to supervise medical students, residents as well as any mid-level providers assigned to the clinical practice location.

  • Fellows are expected to deliver excellent clinical care to patients while growing and expanding access for patients with complex contraceptive clinical issues so that clinical activities are financial sustainable.

  • Fellows are expected to timely complete all required reports including faculty time records, dictation, encounter forms and medical records documentation.

Salary and benefits are based on the PGY housestaff stipend level determined by Emory University School of Medicine, Office of Graduate Medical Education. Qualified candidates must have a terminal degree (MD or DO), successfully completed a 4-year ACGME-accredited obstetrics and gynecology residency program, and be board eligible or board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Licensure by the Georgia Composite Medical Board will be required prior to commencement of fellowship training.
