Description

We are seeking an Armed Public Safety Supervisor to help keep our community safe.We support Emory Healthcare's mantra of "We're all in this together."   • Patrols facilities and property making observations to detect unauthorized persons or activities, unsafe conditions, and ensuring life safety standards are maintained.

  • Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers, Security Operations Center, and Law Enforcement to report crimes, incidents and safety related irregularities.

  • Responds and intervenes in confrontations and restrains violent or disoriented persons as lawfully directed, providing support to clinical team as patient emergencies arise.

  • Observes the necessary safety precautions and established protocols for observations, holds, and patient restraints in accordance with federal, state, and organizational mandates to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained.

  • Investigates and documents, through both written and electronic format as required: Safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities to Public Safety Leadership, Risk Management, Safety Team, and Law Enforcement and other appropriate agencies as determined by Emory Health Care, department policy, or state law.

  • Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as approved by Security Management.

  • These may include transport and release of bodies from the morgue; patient escort; elevator recall checks; monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercom checks; and special event setups.

  • Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.

  • Detains unauthorized individuals as defined by policy or state law and releases them to the proper authorities.

  • Officers are required to use force when appropriate to protect our customers and associates within organization policy.

  • Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency, non-emergency and alarm calls as assigned.

  • Uses good judgment to safely determine the alarm cause, takes appropriate action and/or provides the proper assistance and direction in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

  • Responsible for initiating and evaluating Code Red drills per The Joint Commission requirements.

  • Maintains annual proficiency with issued firearm and less-than lethal equipment.

  • Makes recommendations for changes in safety and security procedures to maintain a high quality of security services.

  • Assists PS Supervisor with daily huddle and other leadership tasks as assigned.

  • Acts as PS Supervisor in absence of supervisor. Responsible for training all new Public Safety Officers.

  • Provides training and education for hospital staff on PS related topics. Manages the shift operation of public safety officers, and directs duties and assignments on daily basis.

  • Prepares work schedules for shift and assigns daily work.

  • Interacts with the EHC community including clinical, support, and law enforcement leaders.

  • Responsible for leading the Field Training process of new officers.

  • Recommends policy/procedure changes to improve operations.

  • Assists in the interviewing and selection of new staff for the department.

  • Ensures all public safety reports are thorough and approved in a timely manner.

  • Supervises staff and manages employee performance.

  • Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, training, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Monitors workflow.

  • Recommends disciplinary action when appropriate in accordance with human resources policies.

  • Responsible for administering departmental policies and procedures in accordance with organizational and governmental guidelines.

  • Establishes and evaluates safety standards in compliance with organizational and governmental guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four (4) years of security, military or law enforcement experience.

  • Meets Expectation on most recent Emory Healthcare performance review (if applicable).

  • No disciplinary action higher than a verbal warning during most recent Emory Healthcare performance review period (if applicable).

  • Proficient in all assigned equipment and weapons upon training.

PREFERRED/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attend EHS Public Safety Trainer Course within 6 months of promotion.

  • Complete EHC PS Leadership Course within 6 months.

  • Complete FEMA IS 242, 904, 914, 915; OBP- AWR-903; FEMA IS 240, 241; and OBP AWR-340 within 12 months of hire.

  • Obtain IAHSS Advanced Certification; IAHSS Supervisor Certification; EHC Public Safety Advanced Firearms Certification; CPI or Equivalent Instructor Certification; IAHSS Healthcare Safety Certificate; and IAHSS Work Place Violence Certification within 12 months of hire.
