JOB DESCRIPTION: Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects. Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core. Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects. Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data. Coordinates various aspects of the study. Routinely develops research protocols. Reviews and edits text for studies. Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research. Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team. Provides direction to consultants and team members. Coordinates and conducts special meetings. Develops and conducts presentations, represents Emory at national meetings, and co-authors publications. Collaborates on or authors reports and papers. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills. Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives is preferred. The Emory Clinical Cardiovascular Research Institute (ECCRI) seeks an Associate Director of Research Projects (ADRP ) to work closely with the Center Director (Dr. Arshed Quyyumi) in providing day to day operational and research management oversight for a large clinical research portfolio. The ADRP will play an important role in spearheading the mission of ECCRI which is to better understand the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease and to develop new approaches to the manipulation of cardiovascular function and the treatment of disease. This role will collaborate across departments and schools as ECCRI brings together clinical investigators from the Division of Cardiology and the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health for collaborative research and knowledge sharing.

Core duties of this position include:

  • Overseeing all aspects of both federal and non federal clinical trial management from negotiation and start up through close out. This includes budgetary and personnel management across a large portfolio of research projects (10+ awards), as well as serving as the research lead.

  • Serve as a direct supervisor for team of 5-10 clinical research coordinators and technicians at various levels. Assist with all aspects of personnel management including training, recruitment, employee schedule management and conducting performance reviews.

  • Serve as direct supervisor and manager for 10-15 research interns who rotate through the summer and annually.

  • Serve as key advisor to the Center director on all research , budgetary , personnel and operationa l matters.

  • Other duties as required

Key Qualifications

Competitive applicants would have significant experience managing both industry sponsored and federal clinical trials, as well as at least 2-3 years of supervisory experience. Medical training and Cardiology specific experience is highly preferred.
