The Yerkes Biomarkers Core is looking for a candidate with extensive experience maintaining and running mass spectrometers to quantify small molecules and peptides in biological samples provided by researchers at Yerkes and the larger Emory biomedical research community.
The selected finalist must demonstrate the following abilities:
Independently perform a wide range of highly technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures
Devise highly specialized research procedures by applying knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment (including but not limited to protein quantification and chemistry, mass spectrometry, etc.)
Provide input to protocol development
Serve as a technical resource for other research personnel
Analyze and interpret the results of studies
Investigate and recommend alternative approaches to improve the quality of results
Train research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests
Recommend new equipment and supplies for specialized research needs; provide input into the development of departmental goals and objectives
Review literature for related research developments and techniques; prepare written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation; oversee quality assurance of research performed by others; monitor the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances
Perform related responsibilities as required.

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.
Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
Will be required to reviews literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
Performs other responsibilities as required.
PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.
