Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Director and Clinical Coordinator is responsible for evaluating and assuring clinical education effectiveness.This clinical coordinator position will have teaching responsibilities and oversee all clinical aspects of the program in collaboration with the Program Director, including the development of relationships with clinical partners to provide excellence in cardiovascular perfusion education opportunities.This individual is in regular contact with clinical affiliates and oversees scheduling and monitoring of clinical activity requirements of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.Demonstrates proficiency in the use of instructional strategies and techniques and expertise in perfusion science based on best practices and evidence.Supports the mission and values of the School of Nursing and Emory University.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university/college

  • Graduation from an accredited perfusion program

Experience:

  • Certified perfusionist with 5 years of clinical experience

  • Licensed perfusionist in the State of Georgia

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an instructor in accredited educational perfusion program with experience leading simulations

  • Proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, program planning and counseling

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc. degree from an accredited university/college

Program Administration Duties

  • Ensure the program is compliant with the AC-PE Standards for Perfusion Education.

  • Monitor and retain data required for accreditation reports.

  • Implement the clinical portion of the program in accordance with the accreditation standards as defined by the CAAHEP and work with the Program Director to obtain initial programmatic accreditation.

  • Maintain clinical sites, coordinate clinical contracts, and obtain qualified preceptors at each clinical facility.

  • Maintain regular contact with clinical affiliates and oversee scheduling and monitoring of clinical activity as required by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

  • Serve on relevant School of Nursing, EHC and University committees as requested.

  • Develop and maintain program policies and update the program student handbook.

  • Collaborate with Admissions regarding recruitment of students, and monitor applications, admission, matriculation, progression, and graduation patterns of students.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Clinical Placement to oversee development of clinical sites and preceptors, evaluation of sites and preceptors, and liaisons with clinical partners.

  • Collaborate with other program directors across the School of Nursing and Emory University.

  • Support the Program Director in accomplishing the outcomes of the program related to planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

  • Work with the Program Director in course development.

  • Participate in the advisory committee for the program.

  • Serve as “acting program director” when designated by the Program Director.

  • Provide ongoing regular communication to the student body.

  • Complete proof of program completion, including specifics of courses and clinical hours.

  • Serve as resource for course faculty and students and assist in resolving student and faculty issues and concerns.

  • Attend Emory functions as requested, e.g. Open House, Admitted Students Day, Orientation activities, etc.

  • Attend graduation ceremonies.

  • Maintain certification by performing a minimum of 40 cardiopulmonary bypass procedures per year to meet recertification requirements

  • Maintain CE requirements for certification

  • Work with student research projects to facilitate journal submissions and maintain the visibility of the program on a national level

  • Present at national and local perfusion conferences to enhance the visibility of the Emory program

  • Ability to support, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.

  • Skilled in the use of computers, internet resources, and MS Office software.

  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills with administration, clinical partners, faculty, staff and students.

  • Ability to represent the University and generate future partnerships.Strong decision-making skills.
