Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reporting to the Director of Federal Affairs, the Assistant Director supports the Director in developing and implementing strategies to represent Emory University in Washington, D.C. on issues related to federal policy and legislation.

  • Monitors legislation and policy developments at the federal level of government, provides updates to the Director of Federal Affairs and the Vice President of the Office of Government and Community Affairs (OGCA).

  • Cultivates effective relationships with Members of Congress, key Congressional staff, and representatives of the Administration and federal agencies.

  • Coordinates and plans tours of Emory for external stakeholders and coordinates and schedules Capitol Hill meetings for Emory advocates.

  • Produces research analysis and creates background materials, as directed, to support the Director of Federal Affairs to ensure coordination across the OGCA team.

  • Creates education material for legislators and staffers by working with offices across campus to gather and distill pertinent information.

  • Works closely with Emory's associations (e.g., The Association of American Universities); attends meetings, identifies issues of interest and communicates with internal Emory stakeholders regarding association activity.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in a federal affairs or related environment which includes experience working on Capitol Hill.

  • Substantive, first-hand knowledge of Congressional and federal policies.

  • Established relationships on Capitol Hill preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to higher education, research and health care.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
