The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for cultivating relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations to solicit gifts and sponsorships for the Center for Ethics. The Assistant Director will also work with Center leadership and be the primary staff liaison to help recruit, manage, and plan meetings for the Center’s Advisory Board. Working closely with faculty and staff of the Center, the Assistant Director will develop and implement donor strategies and programmatic activities with a goal to drive greater constituent engagement and secure private support for the Center in keeping with the Center’s values, mission, and vision. The Assistant Director will help build and expand the Center’s philanthropic culture.

This role will work closely with leadership of Center programs and Emory University’s Advancement and Alumni Engagement (AAE) division (Corporate Relations, Foundation Relations, Prospect Research, etc.), to identify development opportunities for the Center for Ethics. The Center is a university-wide center with a variety of programs and areas of concentration, so the Assistant Director will focus on areas such as medicine and biotechnology, neuroscience, civic life, the arts, and food studies. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Development for Centers and Institutes in the AAE Graduate School and Unit division, and will be under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Ethics.

An ideal individual will be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision and is comfortable with technology in a fast-paced work environment where the candidate will need to demonstrate flexibility and dexterity at handling multiple projects.

Specific duties include:

  • Qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors capable of giving up to $100,000 to reach an annual fundraising goal. Meets annual metrics for contacts, proposals, and successful solicitations.

  • Translates the Center for Ethics campaign priorities into opportunities for support by donors.

  • Will participate in conceptualizing and helping implement programs and activities that have fundraising as a direct or indirect element.

  • Serves as liaison to the Strategic Communications team and Office of Annual Giving on direct mail and email appeals and ensures success of annual fund projects for the Center for Ethics.

  • Participates in fundraising strategy that includes face-to-face solicitations with travel and visit goals as well as qualifying giving capacity and inclination of alumni and prospects.

  • Responsible for uncovering major gift prospects and coordinating with the Center Director and the Director of Development of Centers and Institutes on donor giving and engagement strategy. Also assists in the development of fundraising strategies for new and existing programs in the Center for Ethics.Maintains accurate constituent information and records interactions using the alumni and prospect management database (AWA).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and two years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in fundraising and/or alumni engagement within higher education, not for profits and for profit community-oriented entities

  • A mission-driven spirit and an alignment with the ethical vision and intent of a unique academic center

  • Experience managing programs or projects with metrics or performance goals

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with constituent databases, such as Raiser’s Edge or Advance

  • Experience working in multicultural environments

  • A willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule to cover evening and weekend commitments
