The Assistant Director is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of global health related programs in the Emory Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine. Activities are focused on a variety of National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research training programs including tuberculosis-related research training programs in Ethiopia and the country of Georgia as well research training and career development programs for junior faculty at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia and health professional multidisciplinary educational programs at several collaborating Ethiopian academic institutions. Duties include:

  • Collaborates with representatives and collaborators from public health, academic (university) and research institutions in Ethiopia and in the country of Georgia as well as collaborators from private, government, and international agencies.

  • Represents our Emory research training global health programs in various national and international fora.

  • Instructs and helps train our Fogarty trainees in Ethiopia and Georgia.

  • Helps implement tracking mechanismsand outcome metrics of interest and collaborates on evaluation activities as well as helping to ensure adherence to NIH and Emory University program guidelines and requirements.

  • Opportunities to design and implement new initiatives, conduct research in collaboration with program faculty at Emory and in Ethiopia and Georgia, publish papers on program outcomes and collaborate on publications with Emory and in-country (international) faculty.

  • Helps ensure that the goals and specific aims of these research training programs are met.

  • Drafts progress reports and helps develop grant applications in collaboration with program faculty.

  • Ensures implementation of team science training, mentorship training and leadership training activities and oversees distance learning training in collaboration with Emory faculty.

  • Develops and monitors budgets related to program activities.

  • Opportunities for travel to Ethiopia and Georgia to help implement in-country research training programs in collaboration with our in-country collaborators.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in directing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs.

  • Represents the organization at meetings, conferences and other events.

  • May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of program(s).

  • Provides technical support by evaluating established processes, conducting training, attending operational meetings and networking with affiliated groups.

  • Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines.

  • Participates in planning, administering and monitoring program related budgets.

  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and collaborates with others to ensure program(s) remain viable.

  • May serve on, hold office in, or chair committees.

  • May write publishable articles and papers.

  • May supervise staff as well as interns and students (e.g., graduate students, undergraduate students).

  • Oversees or assists in developing operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.

  • Ensures required records and documentation are maintained.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program(s) and five years of program related experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.This role requires residency in the state of GA.Emory reserves the right to change remote workstatus with notice toemployee.
