The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Residential Education serves the Emory University community by overseeing the staff and day-to-day operations of a residential area.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Directly supervises professional staff including Complex Director(s) and indirectly supervises paraprofessional staff and graduate assistants.

  • Assists with oversight of residence hall operations, policies, and procedures in conjunction with Residence Life staff, Housing Operations, and Campus Services.

  • Supervises assigned project(s) for the Office of Residence Life. (e.g. Pre-College, Summer School, RHA), and oversees coordination of a Year Experience program.

  • Co-coordinates recruitment, selection, and training of all faculty-in-residence.

  • Manages the administration of residential area theme communities in coordination with Complex Directors, Housing Operations, and campus partners.

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and training of student and professional staff positions.

  • Oversees area programming budgets.

  • Responds to students' and parents' concerns.

  • Serves in rotation of on-call professionals responding to emergencies.

  • Counsels students and responds to residential crises as necessary.

  • Teaches or co-teaches a peer counseling course for Resident Advisors (RAs).

  • Advised student groups as necessary.

  • Attends university, divisional, departmental, and area meetings as required.

  • Serves on university, divisional, and departmental committees.

  • Serves as a hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct.

  • Maintains meaningful involvement with relevant professional organizations and engages in efforts to increase professional excellence.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's or advanced degree in higher education, student affairs, or closely related field.

  • Three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for the position.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
