The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Student Staff Selection serves the Emory University community by providing leadership and management of a residential area.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Works primarily to oversee the staff and day-to-day operations of a residential area.

  • The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Directly supervises professional staff including Complex Director(s) and indirectly supervises paraprofessional staff and graduate assistants. Assists with oversight of residence hall operations, policies, and procedures in conjunction with Residence Life staff, Housing Operations, and Campus Services.

  • Coordinates and manages one collateral area of Residence Life (e.g. Student Staff Selection). Supervises assigned project(s) for the Office of Residence Life. (e.g. Pre-College, Summer School, RHA).

  • Indirectly supervises the Sophomore Year Experience residential education program.

  • Manages the administration of residential area theme communities in coordination with Complex Directors, Housing Operations, and campus partners.

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and training of student and professional staff positions. Oversees area programming budgets.

  • Responds to concerns of students and parents .

  • Serves in rotation of on-call professionals responding to emergencies. Counsels students and responds to residential crises as necessary.

  • Teaches or co-teaches a peer counseling course for Resident Advisors (RAs).

  • Advises student groups as necessary.

  • Attends university, divisional, departmental, and area meetings as required. Serves on university, divisional, and departmental committees.

  • Serves as a hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct.

  • Maintains meaningful involvement with relevant professional organizations and engages in efforts to increase professional excellence.

  • Student Staff Selection: Coordinates and manages recruitment and selection process of student staff positions including CC, SRAs, RAs, and SAS. Oversees and manages student staff performance management process.

  • Maintains and manages administrative areas of student staff selection including job descriptions, hiring paperwork, and terms of employment.

  • Provides functional supervision to Complex Director with student staff selection collateral.

  • Works with residence life staff and campus partners to coordinate student staff development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's or advanced degree in higher education, student affairs, or closely related field,

AND

  • Three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cultural competency and ability to work with a diverse population.

  • Proven ability to manage projects and build collaborative relationships.

  • Ability to think critically and present information.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

This position includes night and weekend hours and live-in responsibilities. Staff housing accommodations (apartment with private bath) and a meal plan will be provided. All utilities including water, heat, electricity, residential network access, and cable service are provided at no additional cost.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
