This position provides program support to the Master’s in Development Practice (http://web.gs.emory.edu/mdp/index.html) (MDP) Program at Emory University. MDP is a two-year degree program that trains students for careers in international development, humanitarian, and relief organizations. It combines rigorous academic studies across disciplines with training in management, programmatic and analytical skills. The program bridges between theory and practice by providing students with practical learning opportunities within leading development organizations. Emory MDP is committed to a student-centered pedagogy that hinges on small-sized, highly diverse cohorts, personalized mentoring, and customized curriculum and concentrations.

The Assistant Program Coordinator joins Team MDP (Director, Associate Director, Student Academic Services Administrator, and Program Manager) in a support capacity. A strong work ethic, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work on multiple fronts and in a fast-paced environment is key to being successful in this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of program initiatives which may include the preparation of briefing materials, reports, correspondence and other documents, performing research, developing and maintaining databases, and developing promotional materials.

  • Communicates with national and possibly international program contacts.

  • Tracks program expenditures, and may participate in the budget preparation process.

  • May draft, edit and process grant proposals.

  • Prepares and distributes reports.

  • Coordinates logistical arrangements for meetings, conferences and travel.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

Instructional Support for Faculty and Students: 40%

  • Facilitates instructor access instructional technology, including CANVAS, classroom technology, and zoom setup.

  • Supports curriculum management, including submitting each semester’s class schedule to the Office of the Registrar, fielding questions about class schedules, enrollment, rosters, grades, etc., and ensuring timely completion of course evaluations.

  • Supports management of student practical learning experiences (US Based Internships and Summer Field Practicum), following up on related paperwork and arrangements, communicating with internship supervisors and students as needed.

  • Supports management of students’ academic progress and compliance with program graduation requirements.

  • Assists in onboarding new cohorts, including gathering data, organizing orientation activities, updating the student handbook, etc.

Operations Support: 40%

  • Supports day-to-day office operations, from running campus errands to coordinating events such as the annual Incoming Student Orientation to office space maintenance.

  • Supports program’s financial activity and record maintenance, from processing payment requests to invoice payments to tracking and documenting expenditures by category.

  • Supports development of forms and protocols, maintenance of program’s electronic archives and data gathering projects.

  • Supports management of frequently used platforms (e.g., listservs, Google Drive, Doodle).

  • Supports organization of events for student and alumni engagement, outreach and recruitment.

Communication Support: 20%

  • Manages program’s social media presence and performs basic updates to program website.

  • Conducts online research on marketing options, outreach opportunities, competitor programs.

  • Assists MDP Associate Director with recruitment activities.

The position provides additional programmatic support as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree and experience at an academic institution and/or with students.

  • Experience working, studying, or traveling abroad.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
