Assists in directing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs.
Represents the organization at meetings, conferences and other events.
May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of program(s).
Provides technical support by evaluating established processes, conducting training, attending operational meetings and networking with affiliated groups.
Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines.
Participates in planning, administering and monitoring program related budgets.
Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and collaborates with others to ensure program(s) remain viable.
May serve on, hold office in, or chair committees.
May write publishable articles and papers.
May supervise staff.
Oversees or assists in developing operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
Ensures required records and documentation are maintained.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program(s) and five years of program related experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
The Assistant Director (AD) will provide academic advising to undergraduate students (Atlanta and Oxford campuses) who are interested in pursuing entry into graduate programs or careers in the health and allied health professions (including: medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, nursing, pharmacy, mental health, public health, physical therapy, physician assistant, etc). The AD will advise on professional goals, course selection, extracurricular (community and public service, clinical experiences, research, and other health professional opportunities), and the application process and readiness. The AD will help manage and execute the Composite Letter process. The AD will support communication efforts, both content and technical, through web, social media, and newsletters. The AD will help manage the peer mentor program (selecting, training and managing student leaders). The AD will work with students to support skill building as it relates to the pre-professional admissions process, careers, or other professional development.
Provides advising through individual appointments, walk-in hours and pre-health group advising programs (sophomore year check-up and 1-1 follow ups)
Develops and leads workshops and programs to enhance advising initiatives
Assists with Composite Letter services (advising, writing and editing)
Assists in the marketing of workshops and programs as well developing/editing content for the PHMO website and other social media
Builds links with and serves as liaison to other university offices and supports services such as New Student Orientation/PACE (freshman/transfer advising), Campus Life (Residence Life, OMPS, OSLS, LGBT, Greek Life and the Center for Women), the Center for International Programs Abroad and Emory’s Oxford campus
Builds links with student organizations with pre-health focus
Assists Executive Director (s) and Associate Director with strategic planning, setting yearly assessment goals, and completing end of year assessment reports
Performs related responsibilities as required
Pre-Health Advising is open from 9-5 daily. However, some non-traditional hours will be required for presentations, workshops or advising sessions during occasional evenings and weekends. Some advising may take place on the Oxford Campus.
Master’s degree in professional counseling, student affairs, educational psychology, higher education, allied health, or STEM area.
Prior experience in higher education setting.
Experience with academic or pre-professional advising or some experience with pre-health academic advising/counseling or a major in natural science or pre-health area.
Experience with developing content for presentations and development of liaison relationships.
