The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University has an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant/Associate Director of Cytogenetics, at the rank of Assistant to full Professor, depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will be based at Emory University Hospital, a tertiary care center serving the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Emory Cytogenetics Laboratory is a state-of-the art laboratory offering diagnostic services for bone marrow, blood, and solid tumor and constitutional cytogenetics incorporating conventional chromosome, FISH, and copy-number microarray testing.The successful candidate will share medical oversight responsibilities for test development, validation, implementation, and QA/QC activities; will communicate results and support diagnostic interpretation by physicians; and will teach staff and trainees.
The successful candidate must hold an MD and/or PhD, be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Clinical Cytogenetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, and have strong organizational and administrative skills. Though initially structured as a cytogenetics appointment, this position has the potential for future increases in time and responsibility for molecular diagnostics, so preference will be given to candidates with qualifications and experience in both fields. As one of the top NIH-funded Pathology Departments nationally, we offer outstanding opportunities for scholarship and collaborative research. The successful candidate will also have strong interests in teaching to complement their diagnostic skills. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
