Emory Healthcare/Emory University Associate Director, Instructional Design in Atlanta, Georgia


Provides direction, collaboration, and guidance to faculty and instructional designers participating in creating online courses in the Goizueta Business School (GBS).

Works with the Director of Academic Affairs and Instructional Design on planning, developing, and managing e-Learning and taking existing onsite programs and courses online as needed.

  • Supports excellence by using adult learning theory, assessment, and game theory as it applies to learn.

  • Creates and manages online technology-based academic and non-credit courses in all modalities.

  • Collaborates to expand the Instructional Design area related to for-credit courses, continuing studies, and non-credit professional development programs.

  • Makes key recommendations that will ensure all course objectives are met.

  • Assists instructors in developing and implementing course assessments.

  • Collaborates with GBS faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and implement credit and non-credit courses.

  • Assists faculty and program staff in learning and adapting optimal online design of curriculum and instruction to create effective and strategic uses of multimedia.

  • Provides instructional design support for faculty and program staff in developing interactive online and hybrid courses and programs.

  • Assists faculty and program staff in learning and adapting optimal online design of curriculum and instruction to create effective and strategic uses of multimedia.

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of instructional design principles including performance-based outcomes assessments.

  • Develops, recommends and implements learning assessments and provides ongoing feedback and recommendations.

  • Keeps current and continuously expands knowledge on instructional design and distance learning industry trends and related technology.

  • Maintains professional expertise in teaching and learning, electronic pedagogy, and most recent technology-based course delivery systems.

  • Attends professional workshops and meetings, sharing knowledge and networking with other online instructional design professionals to identify, contribute, and recommend new ideas or methods for enhancing the curriculum.

  • Maintains proficiency with a variety of instructional technologies, including learning management systems, multimedia and instructional course software, multimedia presentation, web conferencing, and classroom technologies.

  • Participates in the scheduling and outlining of course offerings and curriculum projections.

  • Manages instructional designers, independent contractors, and faculty in creating appropriate content for online courses that may include video, photos, audio, tests, quizzes, and interactive activities.

  • Supervises staff and student workers, as needed.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of online instructional design or related experience.

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design or a related field preferred.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • extensive consultation experience with faculty in higher education;

  • experience with hybrid and online course design in higher education;

  • experience with learning theories, technology, and standards in higher education;

  • demonstrated innovative use of hybrid and online technologies;

  • extensive experience with learning management systems;

  • experience with distance learning and instructional multimedia content development;

  • and basic proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of ADA compliance, Section 508, Fair Use guidelines, FERPA, and the TEACH Act desirable.
