The Associate Director, Media Relations and Health Sciences Communications (ADMRHSC), Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) Communications, serves as an associate director of media relations for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and related entities. The role of this position is to increase awareness and visibility of the WHSC, for purposes of enhancing the reputation of the WHSC and its related entities. The ADMRHSC works proactively and reactively to maintain and promote Emory and the WHSC brand. The ADMRHSC is responsible for cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with local and national news media as well as assisting with the creation of messaging, both internally and externally, to help position the WHSC as a go-to resource for leadership/consultation in providing solutions in health care. The ADMRHSC is expected to embody the values and mission of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Emory University, including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Develop communications goals and strategic media relations campaigns and assists with the development of content regarding the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and its units including Emory Healthcare.
Develops and implements media relations and/or publications programs and oversees media relations and/or publications for specific colleges and schools.
Assists in strategic public relations planning and implementation including, media relations, publications and periodicals, crises communication and issues management.
Develops relationships with journalists and oversees and implements new methods for media relations efforts.
Edits texts and works with clients and designers to produce publications.
May supervise staff and production of news and public information materials.
Consults with and advises leadership of the WHSC, including Emory Healthcare, faculty, and physicians on development of content that will be used to educate key stakeholders through various digital platforms.
Works collaboratively with the WHSC Health Sciences’ Communications and University’s Communications and Marketing team to prepare for media interviews, develop press conferences, and create materials for media relations and public affairs.
Contributes to new concept development and related multimedia content for the website for the WHSC and the Emory News Center.
Works collaboratively with Emory University’s media relations team to identify media outlets, develop contacts, and place news, features, and opinion pieces.
May serve as a Woodruff Health Sciences Center's communications liaison to support local partnerships and alliances including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Research Alliance, etc.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with communications peers and works collaboratively to promote joint initiatives and research.
Contributes to content and related multimedia content related to areas of research and clinical care.
Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism or related field.
Five years experience in writing, editing or public relations.
OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The Associate Director, Media Relations and Health Sciences Communications, is an accomplished communications professional who executes communications strategies with a deep understanding of large complex academic and health care organizations.
They will be an accomplished strategic and operational partner with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated experience as a media relations professional, writer and editor.
Demonstrated creative communications and business skills.
Ability to conceptualize and articulate strategic communications plans with an understanding of the diversity of the internal and external audience.
Management/coordination of patient and customer focused organization is desirable to include direct oversight of employees and strategic projects.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.
