The Office of Principal Gifts is focused on building relationships that have a potential for yielding transformational gifts of $1 million dollars and higher. This team strategizes across all schools and units to work towards that goal. In addition, they manage university leadership engagement related to the coordination of engagement with University leaders, principal gift donors and prospects. This position will report to the Director of University Leadership Engagement and Campaign Operations.


  • The Associate Director of University Leadership Engagement and Campaign Operations implements strategy to engage the President, President's Leadership Team, Trustees (University Leadership), and/or the Principal Gifts team in advancement and alumni engagement activities. Supports strategies for principal gift level and above pyramid prospect pipeline including leveraging University Leadership to further these relationships with Emory.

  • Helps draft AAE communications and supporting documents for University

  • Leadership. In partnership with research, creates briefings from CRM system and collaborates with and seeks the support of constituent relationship managers and representatives from schools, units and divisions across the University to prepare university leaders for meetings/events.

  • May edit/review content created by other staff.

  • Researches and responds to complex questions related to advancement and alumni engagement activities.

  • Conducts research, analyzes data and identifies and summarizes trends.

  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.


  • In addition to the duties outlined above, the Associate Director may be required to:

  • Create and manage divisional engagement calendar in partnership with other teams.

  • Create tracking system using project management software to better manage briefing process within division.

  • Represent the department or serve as primary contact working with other departments across the division/University.


  • Bachelor's degree and three years of professional experience, higher education, non-profit, or related environment OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.


  • Successful candidates will possess superb writing, editing, interviewing, and oral presentation skills.

  • Experience in journalism, storytelling, with philanthropic, advancement, donor recognition, research, or healthcare environments.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and navigate a complex work environment.

  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service, the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and comfort working with ambiguity.

  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Experience working with various technologies including strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite, advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, and CRM systems.Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
