The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta, GA (winshipcancer.emory.edu) is recruiting an experienced academic oncologist at a senior rank to join the faculty of the Emory University School of Medicine in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology as Co-Leader of the Melanoma and Skin Cancers Program. The Department has a growing faculty, with Emory Clinic, Inc. physician practices at multiple locations, and it is seeking a leader for the continuing development of this program. Applicants must be Board Certified and eligible for licensure in Georgia. They will show evidence of a strong clinical background, leadership experience, robust academic scholarship, and extensive experience in research and education.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership in research, patient care, and education in melanoma and skin cancers:

a. Oversee clinical activities of members in the program, including practice guidelines, compliance, professionalism/quality,

service scope, etc. at any/all practice locations.

b. Enhance collaborations among sub-specialists and investigators in melanoma across the Winship Cancer Institute. Maintain

regular meetings to continue to develop the program.

c. Cooperate with medical, nursing, and administrative leaders to refine, develop, and expand melanoma oncology services.

d. Expand and enrich melanoma clinical and translational research: broaden scope and further increase enrollment, research

funding, origination, and publication.

  1. Devote approx. 25% effort to ongoing extramurally-sponsored clinical and translational investigation as demonstrated through

individual and team/program-level extramural funding. Develop collaborations with various members of the Department of

Hematology and Medical Oncology and Winship.

  1. Maintain a national/international academic presence. Contribute articles and original manuscripts in upper-tier, peer-reviewed

journals and make regular presentations at relevant (inter)national meetings.

  1. Participate in the regular educational activities for medical staff at Emory University Hospital. Supervise residents and

Hematology and Medical Oncology fellows, give lectures and serve as a preceptor for residents and fellows. Mentor junior

investigators in the melanoma program.

  1. Clinical responsibilities of this position comprise 60-70% of overall effort: outpatient consultation and treatment, rotating

inpatient attending service and call coverage responsibility, and multi-disciplinary collaboration with other specialists.

Winship is a Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute with programs and services at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Emory Johns Creek Hospital, and the Atlanta Veterans’ Administration Medical Center.
