Epilepsy Division Chief – Emory University School of Medicine

Description:

The Department of Neurology at Emory University invites applications for an outstanding and visionary leader for the Director and Division Chief of Epilepsy to lead our Level IV epilepsy center in Atlanta, GA. We seek an MD or equivalent physician, who is board certified in Neurology and Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology and eligible for licensure in Georgia. Proven success in leading a clinical and research program is highly desirable, coupled with a profound commitment to advancing epilepsy care and education, especially for underserved populations.

About the Leadership Position:

  • Coordinate and advance all epilepsy and EEG services across Emory’s primary teaching hospitals.

  • Oversee the tripartite clinical, research, and educational mission, reporting directly to the Chair of Neurology.

  • Oversight of scheduling and staff assignments and management of personnel with the assistance of department managers.

  • Participate in departmental and medical staff committees, budgetary and strategic planning, and recruitment of division members.

  • Lead or foster research from the Epilepsy division and its interactions with other departments.

About the Epilepsy Division at Emory University:

  • Only Level 4 NAEC Epilepsy Center for adults in Atlanta

  • serve a large and diverse community.

  • 12-bed adult epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) with cutting-edge technology, multimodal neuroimaging including fMRI, PET, and SPECT, electrical source imaging, and access to in-house 7T MRI.

  • Skilled technicians supports our practices in continuous EEG, SPECT, and intra- and extra-operative stimulation mapping.

  • Dedicated neuropsychology service engaged in clinical and research activities.

  • At the vanguard of neuromodulation in epilepsy, managing an ever-growing cohort patients with deep brain stimulation and responsive neurostimulation. Emory faculty lead patient care.

  • Dynamic, intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring (IONM) service.

  • Research efforts contribute to the establishment of minimally invasive procedures for epilepsy care, basic science, diagnostic improvements, and the study and treatment of functional seizures.

  • Robust funding portfolio exceeding $15 million, encompassing a diverse spectrum from genetics, proteomics, basic electrophysiology, behavioral studies, and non-human primate research to clinical studies, outcomes research and epidemiology.

  • Education of eight fellows in ACGME-accredited clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy programs, along with over 30 Emory neurology residents, medical students, patients and community caregivers.

  • Multidisciplinary approach to both clinical care and research.

  • Active participation with multiple programs within Emory (e.g., Emory Primate Center, Laney Graduate School of Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering Program) and in the nearby academic community (e.g., Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Shepherd Center, Center for Disease Control).

  • Emory University is consistently in the top 20 recipients of NIH funds among national academic institutions, with the Emory Department of Neurology recently attaining Top 5 in NIH blue ridge rankings in medical research.
