The Department of Surgery of Emory University School of Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, is actively seeking a Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit who would also be the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program Director at the Assistant or Associate Professor academic ranks. This will be a full-time position within the Acute Care Surgery Service under the direction of Peter Rhee MD at Grady Memorial Hospital. This surgeon will also be a member of the Emory at Grady surgical division with a full time academic appointment through Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Surgery.

Administrative responsibilities include: medical directorship of a 30 bed SICU (proposed plan for 30 more beds in next two years); member of the hospital wide Critical Care Committee; program director for the Surgical Critical Care (SCC) Fellowship. Emory¿s SCC fellowship at Grady is a part of the AAST Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. Clinical responsibilities include medical director oversight of the SICU, trauma, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care coverage at Grady Memorial Hospital and the Marcus Trauma Center, a Level I Trauma Center responsible for a population of 5,000,000 in northwest Georgia. The trauma center admits more than 1,100 patients with ISS greater than 16 and is one of the busiest in the Nation. Educational responsibilities include teaching of acute care surgery fellows, Morehouse and Emory General surgery/Subspecialty residents, Advanced practice providers and Medical/Advanced practice provider students. There are extraordinary opportunities for clinical, outcomes and translational research based on patient volumes, acuity, and external research funding within the Department. Candidates must be Board-eligible/certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. The ideal candidate will have completed a 2-year ACS fellowship.
