Description
The Billing Compliance Analyst collaborates with clinical and administrative staff throughout Emory to address and mitigate compliance risks. The Billing Compliance Analysts also functions as part of a unit team to accomplish unit goals and works cooperatively with other compliance staff and department staff as needed to resolve shared issues and concerns. They may also participate in committees, workgroups and process improvement projects as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze data, draft preliminary audit reports and process final reports according to established protocol.
Provide feedback and education on the results of audits and collaboratively establish corrective action plans. Provide information to management for regularly scheduled reports and updates regarding audit progress and results.
Exercise sound judgement in the interpretation and application of law, regulations, policies and procedures. Research documentation, coding, billing and other related regulatory guidelines.
Investigate billing and coding issues as related to inquiries, complaints or audit results.
Review claim denials to assess coding and medical necessity issues.
Serve as a resource for current documentation, coding, billing and related regulatory guidelines.
Develop and maintain detailed audit records, prepare accurate and timely reports, and generate statistical information as requested.
Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Assists with reviewing and analyzing billing processes, conduct auditing and monitoring to ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations.
Assist with coordinating and tracking of revenue/government audits.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in related field and five years of experience in hospital billing coding operations or compliance.
Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Extensive knowledge of ICD 10-PCS, ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding principles and guidelines. Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations related to documentation, coding and billing. Experience in an academic healthcare environment a plus.
Proficiency with electronic medical records systems, databases and related automated systems.
Clinical experience, including but not limited to, LPN or RN licensure is a plus.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required, use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
