The Business Manager provides support to a subset of divisions with the Department of Pediatrics (DOP), currently including Endocrinology, Children's Heart Center, Rheumatology, and Critical Care Medicine. Assignment of divisions can change as departmental needs change. The clinical mission for the Department of Pediatrics is split across the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta locations and the Grady/Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital location. DOP ranked #1 in NIH funding to departments of pediatrics in 2020.


  • Assists in coordinating, providing input for, monitoring and improving the human resources and business operational activities.

  • Assists in planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of activities and special projects affecting area's operations.

  • Coordinates or assists in preparing departmental budgets and forecasts of future budget requirements.

  • May ensure that awarded grants conform to defined budget parameters.

  • Negotiates new and renewal contracts with vendors.

  • Directs logistical and clerical support activities, and coordinates specific data collection efforts and special projects.

  • Designs and generates reports.

  • May supervise staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • Develops, administers and monitors budgets, accounts, policies and procedures relating to operational activities in the areas of human resources, finance, facilities management and research for a subset of divisions within the Department of Pediatrics.

  • Works with departmental HR to manage hiring and performance management needs of personnel within the assigned divisions.

  • Will work with respective RAS and departmental financial analyst to ensure that awarded funds conform to defined budget parameters and projects budget needs to accommodate future grant funding increases, changes and awards.

  • Ensures the preparation of operational and statistical reports for management.

  • May supervise staff and perform related responsibilities as required.

  • Reports directly to one of the Division Administrators and indirectly to the respective division chiefs.

  • This is a hybrid position that include both onsite and remote work days.


  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field and three years of professional business or management experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  • Some positions in this classification may require previous supervisory experience.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
