This position is 100% on-campus.
The Division of Animal Resources is seeking to hire an Cage Wash Technician (CWT) employee at either a CWT Trainee, CWT level I (one), or CWT level II (two). The level of Cage Wash position offered to the selected finalist will be determined after the completion of the interview processes and based on related education and experience as outlined below by the minimum qualifications associated with each position. Please take note of the varying job responsibilities between each level, as well.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
CWT (trainee)
Learns to perform routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions. Operates cage washing and related equipment and ensures that they are in proper working order by cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures. Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies. Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms. Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment. Uses personal protective equipment as required. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent or demonstrated literacy.
The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
CWT I (one)
Performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions. Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order by cleaning, and preventive maintenance. Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures.
Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment. Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies. Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms. Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas. May assist in training new technicians. May provide guidance and direction to Cage Wash Trainees. Works independently.
May act in a lead capacity in the cage wash area in the absence of their supervisor. Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment. Uses personal protective equipment as required. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
One year of cage wash or animal care experience.
The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
CWT II (two)
Performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions. Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order by cleaning and performing preventative maintenance. Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures.
Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment. Provides routine maintenance to caging equipment. Assists in installation of caging and other non-fixed facility equipment. Makes minor repairs to caging equipment. Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies. Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms. Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
Assists in training new technicians in techniques and procedures related to routine cage sanitation. Provides guidance and direction to cage wash trainees and technicians. Works independently. Acts in a lead capacity in the cage wash area under the supervision of a facility manager.
Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment. Uses personal protective equipment as required. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Two years of cage wash or animal care experience.
The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
