  • Supervises daily operations of the Echocardiology Lab under the leadership of the Manager of Non-Invasive Cardiology.

  • Schedules and provides direction to the other Sonographers.

  • Ensures personnel are knowledgeable; coordinated quality improvement activities.

  • Monitors inventory levels of departmental supplies and equipment keeping cost at or below budgeted levels.

  • Responsible for completion of new staff departmental orientation and staff competency including documentation in accordance with ICAEL published Policies.

  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and service records.

  • Coordinates in supervisors absence.

  • Assists the Manager of Non-Invasive Cardiology in the developing of departmental short and long term goals and objectives.

  • Supervises staff and manages employee performance, providing on-going performance feedback to the employee and management.

  • Orients and trains employees, verifies competency, and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills when necessary.

  • Provides documentation to verify employee competencies and performance following ICAEL policies.

  • Prepares daily work schedule including staff assignments, and monitors the workflow in the lab throughout the day.

  • Works with the department manager to project staffing needs, interview candidates and provide feedback to the department manager and HR.

  • Assists with the development of and adherence to departmental policies and procedures and develops any new technical procedures according to ICAEL standards.

  • Participates on departmental performance teams and/or projects.

  • Coordinates staff meetings to communicate operational changes and to do technical peer reviews of images and quality initiatives according to ICAEL guidelines.

  • Seeks input and recommendations from the staff on ways to improve operations or procedures.

  • Communicates with physicians to assure optimal patient care and resources.

  • Identifies staff educational needs and establishes a program to allow staff to acquire CMEs on site.

  • Performs other duties as required.


  • Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound technology. Current RDMS or CCI certificate.

  • Minimum three years of clinical experience.

  • Two years of experience in area of concentration.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks
