The Chair of Emergency Medicine has direct responsibility to build and lead all emergency medicine programs including all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving the faculty/physicians of the Department of Emergency Medicine with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished department. The Chair serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the School of Medicine that establishes the education, research and outreach priorities and leads efforts to ensure the competitiveness of the medical education program. As Chair, s/he is responsible for oversight and management of the Emergency Medicine faculty while advancing innovative scientific research programs.
As Chief of Emergency Medicine for Emory Healthcare, the Chair also works closely with the Physician Group President to ensure high quality emergency medicine service to all patients, to coordinate emergency medicine services across all medical facilities, and to exercise appropriate operational and financial management of Emergency Medicine physicians and services. The Chair works closely with the Dean of the Emory School of Medicine to develop the academic and research programs involving emergency medicine care and plan new Emergency Medicine programs and services.
Successful candidates will be an accomplished leader in the field of Emergency Medicine and be able to present a vision for building and sustaining a top-ranked department of Emergency Medicine. A qualified candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, be a board certified physician and a nationally recognized Emergency Medicine physician who will hold privileges to provide patient care throughout Emory Healthcare. The individual will provide senior leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving emergency medicine for the faculty of the Department of Emergency Medicine, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished department of Emergency Medicine for the School of Medicine of Emory University. Candidates should possess a minimum of ten (10) years of clinical/educational/research leadership experience. S/he will be an accomplished operational and strategic leader with direct administrative experience to include a broad understanding of complex health strategies and issues challenging the field of Emergency Medicine and its medical education programs.
