The Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO) at Emory Healthcare is a critical leadership role responsible for leading the end-to-end supply chain function to include sourcing & contracting, purchasing, value analysis, accounts payable, supply chain systems, materials management, project management and warehouse operations. This leadership role will be a change agent in modernizing healthcare supply chain. They will ensure efficient and effective procurement, distribution, and utilization of resources across the healthcare enterprise. The CSCO will develop and implement strategies to optimize supply chain operations, reduce costs, improve quality, and support Emory Healthcare’s mission of delivering exceptional patient care. This role requires a visionary leader with deep expertise in supply chain management, particularly within the healthcare industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

1. Develop and execute a comprehensive supply chain strategy that aligns with Emory Healthcare’s overall goals and objectives.

2. Lead the supply chain management team, promoting a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

3. Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and implement supply chain initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and patient care.

4. Articulate the vision and goals for supply chain to all levels of the organization

Supply Chain Operations:

1. Oversee all aspects of supply chain management, including sourcing & contracting, value analysis, procurement, accounts payable, project management, inventory management, logistics, distribution, and vendor management.

2. Ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and services while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

3. Implement best practices and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance supply chain performance and resilience.

4. Establish metrics to measure supply chain performance.

5. Successfully and timely manage system improvements to include Phase 0 for an ERP implementation, new SCM system, GHX, material management solutions (2-bin kanban, etc).

6. Manage shift from heavy reliance on manual processes to a high performing LEAN organization in all areas of supply chain.

7. Create a service culture with the supply chain teams.

8. Acts as supply chain’s decision maker (i.e., standardizations programs, committed programs, physician preference products, and outsourcing vs. in-sourcing).

9. Communicates contract information to executive level staff.

10. Provides education to physicians, administrators, clinicians, and department managers in developing an understanding of contracts that support Emory’s operational and financial goals.

Vendor and Supplier Management:

1. Evaluate and maintain GPO relationship to ensure benefits are optimized.

2. Manage primary med/surge supplier to ensure material availability and service meet required standards.

3. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors, negotiating favorable terms and driving value-added partnerships.

4. Monitor supplier performance, ensuring accountability for delivering high-quality products and services in a timely manner.

5. Lead efforts to evaluate and select suppliers based on criteria such as cost, quality, service, and innovation.

Financial Management:

1. Develop and manage the supply chain budget, ensuring alignment with Emory Healthcare’s financial goals and objectives.

2. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining or enhancing service levels and quality.

3. Work closely with the finance team to monitor and report on supply chain performance metrics, ensuring financial targets are met.

4. Facilitates implementation of agreed upon levels of financial performances, quality standards, performance standards and senior management expectations.

5. Takes a leadership role in developing, quantifying and implementing service and cost reduction programs system-wide.

Compliance and Risk Management:

1. Ensure that all supply chain activities comply with relevant healthcare regulations, standards, and organizational policies.

2. Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions and ensure business continuity.

3. Conduct regular assessments and audits of supply chain processes to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation.

Technology and Innovation:

1. Leverage technology to drive supply chain efficiency and effectiveness, including the use of advanced analytics, automation, and supply chain management software.

2. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices that can enhance Emory Healthcare’s supply chain operations.

3. Lead initiatives to implement new technologies and innovations that improve supply chain performance and patient outcomes.

Team Leadership and Development:

1. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing supply chain team, providing guidance, training, and opportunities for professional growth.

2. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.

3. Promote a culture of excellence and accountability within the supply chain management function.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or related field; a Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related) is strongly preferred.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a healthcare or similarly regulated environment.

• Proven track record of developing and executing successful supply chain strategies that drive operational efficiency, cost savings, and quality improvement.

• Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and best practices in supply chain management.

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and vendors.

• Proficiency in supply chain management software and other relevant technology tools.

• Strong ability to establish and monitor KPIs that are in line with Lean performance metrics (e.g., cycle time, inventory turnover, lead times, and cost reductions).

• Proficiency in using data to drive decision-making and process improvements, ensuring continuous optimization of supply chain processes.

• Proven track record of successfully implementing Lean principles in supply chain management, particularly in healthcare settings.

• Expertise in developing and analyzing value stream maps to identify inefficiencies, streamline processes, and enhance overall supply chain throughput.

• Knowledge of Lean supply chain strategies such as Just-In-Time (JIT) inventory management, demand forecasting, and optimizing vendor relationships to reduce lead times and inventory levels while maintaining high service levels.

• Ability to lead and manage large-scale change initiatives across the supply chain using Lean principles, ensuring stakeholder engagement and successful implementation of new processes and systems.

• Strong financial management skills, including experience with budgeting, cost control, and ROI analysis related to supply chain operations.

• ERP Systems Training (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday) : Given the complexity of supply chain technology, proficiency in using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is critical.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), Lean Six Sigma , or Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) are highly desirable.

• Lean Six Sigma Certification (Black Belt or Green Belt)

• Experience leading supply chain operations in a large, complex organizations.

• Certification in Lean (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or similar) with a deep understanding of eliminating waste, optimizing workflows, and driving efficiencies across complex supply chain operations.
