The Senior Chiller Mechanic at Emory University performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair to Utility Plant water chillers of up to 2,000 tons and associated equipment to include cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and water filtering systems to provide a high level of availability and energy efficiency.


  • Assists with advanced repairs, overhaul, disassembly, reassembly, and modification to Utility Plant water chillers.

  • Helps troubleshoot and provides input on control sequence for operation of chillers and associated equipment.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and wirinAg diagrams.

  • Works in a safe manner and keeps up with OSHA standards and all other applicable federal regulations.

  • Completes preventative maintenance orders, work orders, and documents work performed.

  • Communicates orally and written with department personnel and management for the purpose of receiving and advising on matters concerning chiller plant operation, maintenance, and repair.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • 2 positions are available:

  • Afternoon/ Evening Shift

  • Day Shift


  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduation from an accredited HVAC technical school or equivalent experience.

  • Six years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC equipment.

  • Two years of experience working on chillers sized 500 tons and up including cooling towers and associated equipment.

  • Valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record.

  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
