JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides technical support for MRI scanners for Emory Healthcare System to include development and maintenance of quality control program including ACR testing, staff education, procedure/exam optimization, and protocol development and documentation to ensure delivery of effective and efficient MRI services. Performs other related duties as required. Operates MRI scan equipment as needed. Supports clinicians in developing faster imaging techniques to improve patient throughput. Creates flexibility to scan patients on different machines; facilitates scheduling and minimizes patient waiting time. Improves and optimizes protocols and sequences on the scanners. Provides support to Emory Healthcare in purchasing and upgrading equipment, and equipment moving t decisions related to MRI. Develops programs for and assists with clinical care of patient. Effectively communicates with patients, and other health care team members, including physicians, administrators, and technologists to provide optimum patientcare.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or related field; PhD preferred. Must have two years experience in clinical MRI environment. Must have knowledge of MRI Physics and Applications. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Must have scanning skills to be able to perform MRI imaging as requested. Ability to write protocols for MRI scans.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks

MRI Physicist Requirements

Ideal candidate will assume the role of local MRI expert, serving as a technical liaison between radiologist and technologist. They will work collaboratively with senior MRI clinical scientists on various tasks and projects within the Department of Radiology.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Optimize and troubleshoot clinical sequences and protocols

  • Maintain, update, and implement standardized MR protocols and documents

  • Oversee MR image quality, and resolve QC issues from radiologists and technologists

  • Oversee technologist Weekly QC programs, which includes weekly phantom scanning and visual checklist

  • Partake in ongoing technologist safety and applications training

  • Conduct routine ACR compliance testing

  • Provide technical expertise and support for MR-related projects

  • Conduct personal or collaborative quality-improvement projects within the department

  • Document and report important findings to other MR clinical scientists

  • Monitor new trends and advancements in the MRI field for further investigation and implementation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Master’s degree in medical physics or other relevant physical science or engineering discipline

  • Formal coursework in anatomy, physiology, or other related biological science

  • Experience and knowledge of MRI physical principles, including clinical applications and safety

  • Experience and knowledge of MR accreditation and compliance testing

  • Strong communication and time management skills; motivated, flexible and collaborative.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a clinical MRI environment, including protocol optimization and quality improvement

  • Experience and knowledge of GE and Siemens MRI equipment

  • Familiarity with MR scanning, from patient safety and setup to exam execution

  • Prior research or project experience in MRI

  • Experience in computer programming and image post-processing applications
