Reporting to Senior Administrator of the Goizueta Institute with dotted line to the Associate Vice President for WHSC Communications, the Director, Communications, Goizueta Institute, leads the communications functions for the Institute, reviews communications strategies with institute leadership, and serves as a resource to physicians and staff to provide counsel in all areas relative to communications. This position will supervise staff members and is directed at increasing public awareness and enhancing the reputation of Goizueta Institute both internally and externally, including locally, regionally, and nationally, while aligning with overall communications and marketing strategies within the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.

Goizueta Institute’s vision is a world less burdened by brain disease. It is a first-of-its kind consortium of programs focused on unlocking the mysteries of brain disease to enable sooner, smarter care for all forms of brain disease. The institute includes five distinctive programs: Center for Neurodegenerative Disease, Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Shaffer Cognitive Empowerment Program, Georgia Memory Net, and Personalized Brain Health Initiative. Each one of the programs will require a distinct but coordinated communication strategy based on its goals and audiences. Responsibilities involve developing and implementing strategic multi-channel communications plans to increase awareness of the institute and its programs; developing, designing, writing, and directing content for print, digital and video communications including web content, video scripts, brochures, social media posts and other materials; managing and directing media relations to garner positive news coverage (reactive and proactive engagement with local and national media outlets and reporters); providing strategic planning in coordination with WHSC Communications leadership for potentially challenging media relations issues; overseeing and coordinating our websites and presence; working with Emory Healthcare to support brand awareness and clinical programs; overseeing and managing internal communications strategy (meetings, newsletters); serving on program committees; coordinating media interviews, ceremonies, and events; managing budgets and timelines for programs and projects. Coordinates and partners with Emory Brain Health Center marketing & communications team. Coordinates and partners with Emory Advancement & Alumni Engagement on messaging, content and materials for stewardship and potential donor prospects.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reviews and develops policy relating to program initiatives and institutes strategic plans.

  • Develops and implements strategies for media relations, publications, and community relations programs in support of image enhancement.

  • Acts as spokesperson for the organization.

  • Develops and oversees communication efforts for specific programs and overall institution building efforts.

  • Manages a budget and a staff.

  • May be responsible for managing various aspects of social media activities.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field.

  • Seven years of related experience which includes three years in a communications or public relations position.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.This role requires residency in the state of GA.Emory reserves the right to change remote workstatus with notice toemployee.
