Develops, writes and edits various communications materials including correspondence, newsletters, brochures and articles. Develops and maintains effective methods for distributing communication materials and information. Maintains required record-keeping and documentation. May train staff in the use of communications technology. May utilize various aspects of social media to accomplish work objectives. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

CHAMPS Description

This position serves as a Communications Specialist with the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) Network Program Office at Emory’s Global Health Institute. The CHAMPS Network is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to increase understanding of how, where and why children become ill & die enabling scientists and public health leaders around the world to take action. CHAMPS is envisioned to be a 20-year surveillance program targeting countries with high rates of under 5 mortality in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. CHAMPS has ongoing surveillance activities at seven sites in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. CHAMPS collaborates with government ministries and local stakeholders, providing technical and financial assistance.

Duties include:

  • Support the Director of Communications and CHAMPS team in the planning and development of CHAMPS communication strategies and messages

  • Develop, review and edit communications materials

  • Coordinate the development and review of communications content by CHAMPS team members and partners, serving as a liaison across program areas

  • Manage or support the management of CHAMPS website content, newsletters, social media, and other communications activities

  • Support relationships with communications collaborators at partner organizations and sites

  • Provide technical assistance to CHAMPS sites in communications activities

  • Support the development and maintenance of partnerships with key stakeholders to ensure successful execution of CHAMPS communication strategies

  • Coordinate administrative and logistical aspects of communications activities

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in communications, journalism, or public health or equivalent experience in communications, journalism, or public health

  • Experience in global health

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Project management skills

  • Experience with social media, website design, photography, video production, and/or graphic design

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills

Travel: 5% international travel
