The Coordinator of Fire Safety reports to the Director of Fire Safety. You will coordinate and assist with Emory Fire Safety Division activities at the Atlanta, Oxford, and Grady campuses.
Organizes and conducts fire drills in all university buildings; provides direction to building fire safety volunteers to ensure the orderly evacuation of building occupants.
Assists the Director of Fire Safety in the development of evacuation plans and evacuation maps for existing, renovated, and new university buildings and properties.
Facilitates community-wide training and awareness and social media programs for improving fire/life safety and code compliance.
Assists in fire incident responses and with inspecting university structures and equipment per Life Safety other applicable codes and standards.
Prepares and distributes written inspection reports.
Assists with emergency pre-planning activities for fire response teams and investigating fire alarms to determine cause and resolve issues.
Assists State Fire Marshal and local Fire Department officials during official business while on campus.
Assists with preparation and maintenance of comprehensive building files of fire safety components for Emory University facilities.
Performs life safety monitoring activities during campus events with large assemblies.
Reviews fire alarm panel notifications and assists in rectifying fire alarm issues for all Emory University properties.
Performs other duties as required.
A high school diploma or equivalent and three years of fire safety training or related experience.
Must have a working knowledge of the Life Safety Code, State, and National Fire Codes, building codes, the Americans with Disabilities Act and/or the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and other appropriate codes and regulations.
This position requires a valid State of Georgia license and an insurable driving record.
Some positions within this classification may require extensive walking, the ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces and to lift up to 40 pounds.
NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
