We're seeking a Database Administrator III / Database Engineer with experience in DevOps and Cloud database technologies to join us our dynamic team and work for an organization with noble cause while enjoying work/life balance and excellent training opportunities.   • Will lead the design and operation of multiple database hosting platforms.

  • Utilizes hands-on experience in the following databases - PostgreSQL, MySQL, AWS DB Hosting (RDS). Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB.

  • Applies expertise in Ansible, Jenkins, Git, Python, or CloudFormation.

  • Experience successfully working as part of a cross-functional agile development team, interacting effectively with developers, systems engineers, data engineers, system stakeholders, and the customer.

  • Understanding of emerging IT trends. Actively follows new cloud data architecture patterns and tooling options.

  • Experience defining, developing and implementing automated and repeatable cloud automation processes for databases (monitoring/alerting, backup, recovery, high availability, upgrades, etc.) using AWS and other standard automation tools, such as CloudFormation and Ansible.

  • Working knowledge of DevOps, automation and metrics driven continuous process improvement. Experience working within an IT Service methodology/framework, such as ITIL and knowledge of ServiceNow.

  • Experience designing and managing services that protect sensitive data, such as data that is regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

  • Expertise in solving problems under ambiguous situations. Must be able to process both abstract and concrete information, consider alternatives, and think outside the box.

  • Form collaborative partnerships grounded in trust and integrity with customers, peers, stakeholders, and leadership

  • Self-starter, team player, highly motivated individual with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Performs rotating on-call 24/7 duties to support enterprise-wide applications.

  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.


  • A bachelor's degree in IT or related field


  • Three years of relevant IT experience in database administration that includes developing application queries or stored procedures, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.


  • Microsoft, SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB and other non-relational database experience.

  • Hands-on experience successfully migrating data from on premise applications to a public cloud, preferably using AWS DMS (Database Migration Services) and Schema Conversion tool. Experience migrating Oracle to PostgreSQL will help

  • AWS certification is preferred, even if not current

  • Working knowledge and experience with DevOps (including infrastructure as code) tools, practice, and site reliability engineering principles in an AWS environment

  • Experience with operating in an Agile Scrum setting

  • Experience implementing best practices for monitoring and proactively identifying performance issues within AWS database technologies

  • Experience which includes the design and implementation of databases on multiple platforms.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
