JOB DESCRIPTION: Chief academic and administrative leader for a faculty of approximately sixty-five. Reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Has oversight responsibility for all internal administrative matters, and for representing the the school to all of its external constituents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Juris Doctor and 10 years of executive level experience or experience as an executive chair; Strong commitment to legal research and teaching, evidence of intellectual leadership; ability to recruit and retain distinguished faculty, talented staff and outstanding students; ability to engage and excite the local, national and global legal communities about the initiatives embraced by Emory Law School, and the ability to inspire pride and optimism about Emory's short and long term strategic goals. Evidence of academic leadership, the ability to successfully raise funds for the Law School and to position the law school as among the nation's most renowned will be highly valued or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
The next dean of Emory Law will have primary responsibility for the following:
Developing a compelling vision and implementing strategic steps which promote and advance Emory Law’s national and international reputation in collaboration with faculty, staff, and university leadership;
Providing inspiring leadership and responsible oversight for Emory Law to ensure that all aspects of the institution effectively serve the research, teaching, and service missions of Emory University;
Providing strong administrative oversight in developing and managing the structural, financial, and human resources of Emory Law;
Developing and improving the financial and physical resources of Emory Law, especially through advancement and fundraising;
Defining clearly the role of a great law school in the context of a great research university and working collaboratively with faculty and university leadership to align and implement Emory Law’s mission with the university’s strategic priorities;
Enhancing Emory Law’s relationships with alumni, members of the legal profession, community members and other external constituencies and stakeholders; and
Fostering a culture of academic eminence and intellectual exchange within Emory Law and within the university community more
