The Hubert Department of Global Health (HDGH), Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), Emory University is seeking to recruit a Research Track Assistant Professor with a specific focus on developing methods, tools, and integrating existing and novel data streams for infectious disease modeling . This recruitment is in collaboration with the new Center for Infectious Disease Modeling & Analytics and Training Hub (CIDMATH - ) at Emory University. CIDMATH is one of 13 Centers that comprise Insight Net ( ), funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to improve outbreak response using data, modeling, and advanced analytics for ongoing and future infectious disease threats and public health emergencies.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in advanced infectious disease modeling and the development of novel methods and will be able to lead the development of statistical approaches for estimating key epidemiological parameters from wastewater surveillance and pathogen sequence data. Other relevant scientific areas and experience include:

  • Evaluating the predictive power of machine learning approaches for spatio-temporal epidemic forecasting.

  • Developing causal inference methods to evaluate vaccines and other public health interventions.

  • Leading the development and analysis of studies using novel methods to quantify human contact in the context of infectious disease transmission.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • a PhD in Biology, Biostatistics, Ecology and Evolution, Epidemiology, Mathematics, or Global Health with a strong background in mathematical and statistical modeling;

  • a strong record of academic research, including demonstrated expertise in the design and simulation of epidemiological models, clinical data analysis, wastewater data analysis, sequence analysis, and/or machine learning approaches;

  • a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals;

  • excellent communication and presentation skills;

  • the ability to be a team player and foster a collaborative, multidisciplinary, positive and inclusive research environment; and

  • Interest in providing mentorship and guidance to graduate students and junior researchers.

Numerous opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration exist within the CIDMATH Center and the HDGH department, with other academic departments at Emory schools, and with other colleagues in Atlanta, nationally and globally.

HDGH ( ) includes strong programs in WASH, nutrition, infectious disease, non-communicable diseases, community health and development, and sexual and reproductive health. RSPH currently employs 180 full-time faculty members, and over 1,000 full and part-time students are obtaining Master’s degrees in its six Departments and six PhD programs. The department hosts many international fellows, including Humphrey, Foege, Fogarty, Muskie, and Fulbright. HDGH is expanding its network of global partners by building strategic alliances with developing and emerging global players in public health. The department has unique partnerships with Atlanta-based organizations such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CARE, the Carter Center, and American Cancer Society, and with health organizations around the world.
