JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides daily direction and management of the computing and information technology activities in the School of Nursing (SON) including research technologies; simulation technologies; classroom technologies; policies; programs and schedules for applications; systems; data processing; computer services; network communications; and management information services to accomplish goals and objectives.
Develops and establishes operating policies and approaches for computing and information technology in collaboration other IT leaders.
Provides end user protocols and education support for use of system at maximum levels of adoption.
Guides team through technical issues and challenges with direct resolution to the issues and fixes needed for resolution.
Ensures project management practices follow the University project management and system development lifecycle frameworks and assists in the development and refinement of these frameworks.
Conducts Technical security audits to identify areas of improvement.
Directs and manages the development of technology solutions that are dependable, cost-effective, robust, secure, and meet the needs of SON, specifically in research, academic technology and simulation technology.
Works to proactively provide services that anticipate needs and can be customized to meet a broad and changing set of functions.
Ensures these solutions fit the overall Emory architecture and that they comply with federal and institutional standards, practices, and policies, such as HIPAA.
Serves as a technology expert to the SON and the University communities.
Assists in the development of grants and the designing of solutions, and advocates for SON in committee, where applicable.
Collaborates with the community to evaluate emerging technologies that foster innovation within the environment.
Encourages and conducts health informatics and information technology research, the publication of research findings, and the advancement of fields.
Represents the SON and Emory University at local, regional, national, and international meetings and forums with internal and external constituents and IT vendors.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science Management Information Systems or a related field and 10 years of related work experience which includes the design and implementation of highly complex information systems on multiple platforms, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Previous supervisory, leadership or management experience.
Knowledge of information technology computer systems and software and the ability to manage the entire spectrum of information technology operations.
Expertise in information technology principles and applications, IT system management methodologies, and evaluation and testing of new technologies.
Experience and skills in negotiating with vendors and contractors, building, and managing budgets and working with organizational management and leadership.
Working knowledge of AWS and other cloud opportunities for innovation that advance faculty practice and support with tools preferred. Working experience with academic research needs in computational science for big data sets preferred.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
