  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Office of Technology Transfer (OTT), assists with operational activities and serves as a member of the OTT leadership team.

  • Develops and implements strategies to provide assistance in guiding discoveries to market through new venture creation and development.

  • Participates in the development of the strategy for this group within OTT and oversees its execution.

  • Has responsible for leading the Faculty & Startup Services team which works with academic and clinical faculty to raise Intellectual Property (IP) awareness, foster innovation, entrepreneurship and academic-industry collaborations, and help develop new ideas and inventions.

  • Provides services and consultation to faculty for issues relating to IP commercialization.

  • Supports translational research by seeking proof-of-principle funding for early-stage technologies.

  • Educates faculty and startups regarding small business innovation research (SBIR) funding, small business technology transfer research (STTR) funding, and other sources of funding available to their startups.

  • Facilitates faculty driven start-up activities and new venture creation by working with faculty founders, business entrepreneurs, investors, industry partners and other parties.

  • Maintains an active program in entrepreneurial education and training for internal and external constituents; builds an entrepreneurial network.

  • Maintains current knowledge of investment and market trends in all sectors of life sciences and develops relationships within the investment.

  • Provides assistance to the licensing team and Emory faculty to increase the marketability and valuation in the university's most promising technologies.

  • Manages many projects to assure the team and OTT meet their goals.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • A master's degree in a science or business-related field and five years of related work experience OR a PhD in a science or business field and three years of related work experience.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • A working knowledge of licensing and experience in other aspects of technology transfer.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property protection.

  • Experience working in startup companies or in a role that supports startup formation/funding is preferred.

  • Demonstrated diplomacy in complex situations.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  The schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of the department of work.
