Emory University Director of Financial Analysis / Reporting in Atlanta, Georgia


Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Business Operations, we are seeking a Director of Financial Analysis and Reporting to assist in non-academic budget development, financial reporting, and analysis.


  • Leverages skills and relationships across the institution to meet the needs of administrative departments without a Business Officer and to enhance financial performance at all levels within the institution.

  • Effectively communicates information to departments across non-academic units in support of University budget and planning efforts.

  • Provides customer-friendly expert financial services to administrative departments within the Business Operations Service Center.

  • Supports leadership with routine and ad-hoc financial presentations and reporting by department and/or financial category to support resource management. Evaluates results and is responsible for updating leadership on issues or trends that need attention.

  • Works with the AVP of Business Operations:

  • to manage the annual budget process for the non-academic units which includes outlining the one-time and reoccurring requests in a framework that can be prioritized and reviewed by leadership;

  • to organize a process by which unbudgeted activities go through an organized approval process; and to organize a process by which all project accounts are reviewed for specific needs and approved or moved as appropriate.

  • Evaluates, supports, and regularly consults with non-academic units under the EVPBA in budget development and budget management, financial activities and planning, and operating results for all funds.

  • Assists in the development and management of the budget and related request documents for areas that do not have a Business Officer including monthly reporting and reconciliations, as needed.

  • Implements fiscal policies to support the organization including managing cash flow and ensuring appropriate use of funds.

  • Works in partnership with the Budget Office to ensure that deadlines are met and budget requests are analyzed and prioritized appropriately.

  • Supports institutional priorities by working with Chief Business Officers and department managers to fund discretionary commitments to various units.

  • Maintains documentation on discretionary commitment approvals, and performs monthly reconciliations for discretionary resources.

  • Supports administrative reviews with timely data analytics and analysis including revenue and expense trends, fund balances, trend reporting, benchmarking, etc.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Business Operations to ensure fiscal close responsibilities are handled on time and in compliance with policy including submitting journal entries and year-end forecasts.

  • Works with others to manage and drive the timely completion of enterprise-wide special projects and ad-hoc analyses.

  • Advises on matters associated with financial and business operations.

  • May participate in and lead projects. May hire, train and supervise staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field

  • Seven years of progressively responsible accounting, financial analysis/reporting, budget management or related experience.

  • MBA preferred.

  • Extensive experience in higher education. Analytical skills to define problems and propose solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge of systems such as EBI and Compass and the ability to pull and analyze data preferred.
