The Director of Nursing, Student Health Services is a multifaceted position which requires a strong foundation in patient care in addition to excellent leadership abilities.
Leads the nursing and medical assistant team, providing coordination of patient care, supervision of all SHS nurses, medical assistants, administrative and budget management, and troubleshooting of problem areas.
Responsible for developing a strong team that is collaborative, collegial, and works together to best support and meet the needs of a diverse population of Emory students.
Serves as an ambassador for Student Health Services, representing the work of the division and championing the needs of students and campus wellness.
Supervises all nursing and medical assistant staff members, including work assignments, scheduling for special events as well as daily staffing; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; develops a strong nursing care team where staff take pride in their work and are excited by the opportunities to be at Emory and serve the university's students. Hires, trains, and supervises nursing staff.
Coordinates professional development for all nursing and medical assistant staff as appropriate in clinical procedures; coordinates in-service training, continuing education, orientation, competency reviews, and other related training functions.
Functions as a clinical leader in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for young adult and adult patients. For candidates with an advanced practice degree, would provide clinical care as appropriate for that degree with MD support.
Provides care to patient populations with more complex health issues and serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff.
Interacts with students and their parents/guardians related to concerns regarding their special medical needs/issues. Exercises discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.
As a member of the SHS leadership team, participates in decision making including the setting of financial and organizational goals, the budget for nursing care personnel, and the budget for medical equipment and supplies.
Develops and implements strategic goals and objectives to maintain high-quality patient care outcomes in keeping with EUSHS and accreditation standards.
Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and services which are consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of EUSHS and the Division of Campus Life.
Serves on departmental committees, including the EUSHS Executive Committee and Core Committee.
Participates in committees and meetings within the Division of Campus Life and the University to develop collaborations with other departments to ensure the wellbeing of the campus community.
Oversees and supports the Immunization Compliance Team, Travel Clinic and Allergy Clinic. Coordinates nursing and immunization outreach events with University stakeholders.
Oversees and maintains medication inventory used at EUSHS including ordering, storage, security, record keeping, and disposal in compliance with the state laws and FDA guidelines.
Monitors FDA recalls and medication safety guidelines.
Maintains medical equipment and supplies used at the EUSHS utilizing purchasing contracts of group medical buying plans.
Actively participates in maintaining the department's quality improvement and peer review programs.
Assesses current practices and seeks to implement innovations and changes in practice that improve the student experience at EUSHS.
Maintains safe work environment for staff and patients.
Leads EUSHS in actively participating in office safety and emergency response procedures and training.
Consults and coordinates with local health officials and CDC with regard to prevention and control of communicable diseases; establishes preventive programs and procedures.
Monitors and maintains professional and licensing requirements for nursing and medical assistant staff.
Participates and contributes to the accreditation process.

Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; bachelor's or master's degree in nursing.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner in the state of GA.
Seven years of recent clinical care as an RN or NP required, and at least two years of supervisory experience preferred.
Previous accreditation experience preferred.
Fluency in Microsoft office preferred.
