Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Student Services, theDirector of Student Lifeis responsible for shaping and facilitating a vibrant student community that is conducive to student development and supportive of the mission of Emory Law. Uses campus-wide resources to ensure Emory Law is advancing inclusive and equitable opportunities for student activities including the promotion of existing student organizations and the support necessary to facilitate new organizations to address emerging needs. Creates, organizes, and implements comprehensive new student orientation programs for all Emory Law degree-granting programs ( such as JD, AJD, Transfer, MCL, LLM, JM, SJD).
Key areas of responsibility include:
Student Leadership Development
facilitates meetings with student leaders and groups while providing ongoing support and counseling,
advises student program members and leaders regarding program planning and development, group process concerns, leadership and personal development, budgets, and University policy,
creates and implements training and development programs for student leaders, and
recruits, trains, and supervises student and staff volunteers for Law School and University programs and events.
Student Group Advising
fosters community through the advisement and mentorship of sixty student organizations and practice societies, including the law school’s student affinity groups,
advises SBA through the planning of annual large-scale programming: Harvest Moon Ball, First-Year Feast, Graduating Student Spaghetti Dinner, and Barristers' Ball,
provides guidance and appropriate referrals to students seeking assistance, and
models and stresses appropriate professional behavior in all interactions.
plans, organizes, and implements student activities and programs, serving in both an administrative and advisory role,
serves as a student advocate and liaison to the faculty and administration, providing regular updates on relevant issues as they arise,
oversees student diversity and inclusion training program, including regularly held meetings of the student diversity network,
assists in the development of Student Life strategic goals and objectives,
implements Student Life strategic goals and objectives,
designs and facilitates fall and spring orientation programming for over 350 students across all academic programs in conjunction with Office of Admission,
coordinates and implements Preview Day activities with Office of Admission and affinity groups,
plans, organizes, implements, and supervises special events, both on and off campus,
manages a multifaceted calendar of events, meetings, and training programs,
coordinates the selection processes for over thirty commencement awards, and
coordinates and implements the December Graduation Reception.
serves on Law School and University committees as appropriate,
performs evening and weekend work,
prepares operational, statistical, and narrative reports for Law School and University administration,and
performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
A Juris Doctor or graduate degree in higher education administration, counseling, student development or a related field.
Three to five years of relevant experience in the field of student activities.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage diverse students, including those from underrepresented populations.
Previous experience advising student organizations.
Juris Doctor, Juris Master, or other law-related degree.
Experience working in a legal education environment, or law-related organization.
