Job Description Plans, directs, manages, coordinates and monitors operations of the Patient Access Department for The Emory Clinic (TEC). Develops and implements strategic goals and objectives to ensure regulatory compliance. Coordinates and supervises staff services for continuous improvement of operations. Interacts with key organizational leaders as well as physicians daily. Participates in key organizational committees as needed. Develops and administers departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal and organizational guidelines. Provides strategic direction for the Patient Access Department across TEC. Creates an environment of continuous quality improvement for Patient Access.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Business or related field. Master's degree preferred. Must have at least 10 years of experience in a healthcare setting or related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1-10 lbs 0-33% of the work day (occasionally), negligible 34-66% of the workday (frequently), negligible 67-100% of the workday (constantly). Lifting 10 lbs max, carrying of small articles such as dockets, ledgers, files, small tools, occasional standing & walking, frequent sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required, use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

In depth understanding of call center operations and technologies.

Experience in an academic medical center, large integrated health system or other complex organization.

Laser focus and passion for innovative continuous improvement aimed to create the ideal patient, family, provider, and employee experience.

Possess strong leadership, team building and engagement, communication, problem solving, organization, change management, and analytical skills.

Demonstrated ability to gain the trust of key organization leaders, faculty, team members, and direct/indirect reports.

Serve as an example leader, manager, and mentor in an organization focused on investing in and training the next generation of administrative healthcare talent.

Addendum to Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations of the Physician Group Practices, the Director is responsible for strategic leadership and operational management of ambulatory patient access across Emory Healthcare. As part of the Physician Group Practices senior management team, the Director ensures the proper access technology and operational infrastructure are in place to support the accelerated growth of the organization’s local, regional, national and international clinical network strategy.

The Director leads over 275 Patient Access team members, handling over 3.5 million calls annually. The Director partners with Patient Access leaders and staff to build and sustain a culture which delivers an ideal experience for our patients and families, the Emory care teams, and referring providers.
