Emory Healthcare/Emory University Division Administrator, Digestive Diseases in Atlanta, Georgia


The Division of Digestive Diseases, within the Department of Medicine at Emory University, has over 40 full-time academic faculty members and 70 non-faculty staff. Our faculty are leaders in clinical care, with a clinical practice that stretches across Emory Healthcare, Grady Health System, and the Atlanta VA Health System, and sees over 60,000 annual patient encounters and over $16M in revenue. The Division is dedicated to the academic missions, with two fellowship programs (18 total fellows) that train the next generation of physicians and researchers, and a research program comprised of nationally recognized faculty with funding from major agencies/institutions, including the National Institutes of Health and U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Reporting to the Director of the Division of Digestive Diseases, the Department of Medicine Executive Administrator for Clinical Affairs, and the Department of Medicine Executive Administrator for Academic Affairs, the Division Administrator provides overall administrative direction for the academic, clinical, research, education, and financial activities within the Division. This key leader ensures the administrative and financial stability of the Division. He/she works closely with the Division Director to develop comprehensive budgets for the Division’s University and Emory Healthcare enterprises, and he/she directs financial planning and analysis, faculty salary planning, faculty clinical deployment, human resources management, research and office space management, purchasing activities, and capital equipment procurement. This individual partners with the University’s research administrative shared services to manage a large and complex grant portfolio and negotiate new and renewal grants and contracts. He/she develops long-term and short-term strategic goals and objectives for the Division. He/she addresses human resources issues and is accountable for effectively managing employee performance and providing feedback on an ongoing basis. This individual serves as the primary administrative liaison for the Division with the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, Emory Healthcare, Emory Medical Care Foundation, Grady Hospital, Veterans Administration Medical Center and other affiliates.


  • Plans, coordinates and is accountable for the major activities of a single division within a department including grants and contracts, clinical operations, development and administration of total budgets over $10 million, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management.

  • Works with the Division Director to develop and administer the capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets and to establish division short and long term objectives.

  • Negotiates new and renewal grants/contracts.

  • Interviews faculty applicants and recommends candidates for select positions.

  • Ensures effective and efficient office procedures.

  • Handles division human resources issues and is accountable for the hiring, disciplinary, termination, and salary decisions which are made for the division.

  • Prepares various operational and statistical reports.

  • Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.

  • Supervises staff and effectively manages employee performance.

  • Works closely with department administration and acts as a liaison between management and other divisions, schools and departments concerning research issues.

  • Assist in determining and addressing staff training needs.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


A master's degree in business administration, finance, human resources or a related science field and five years of professional business administration or management experience, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education and training. Previous supervisory experience.

Additional Details


  • Experience in an academic medical center setting with matrixed reporting relationships, shared services models, and research administration is highly preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

  • Attention to detail and strong computer software skills are necessary to develop and present critical, confidential information.

  • He/she must bring exceptional integrity, intelligence, maturity, and successful experience navigating complex organizational settings.

  • He/she must be able to work independently in a fast paced environment, make sound judgments, handle confidential information, and be a creative, energetic problem solver.
