Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The EMT, under the supervision and direction of the Physician and Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care necessary for efficient functioning of the nursing unit.

  • Assists by performing vital signs, collecting data, performing procedures, transporting non monitored and stable monitored patients, monitoring central monitors in the ED with recognition and documentation of rhythm, stocking supplies, and other specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, INT, Accudata, splinting, etc.

  • Takes steps necessary to produce excellent work in any task or job that is assigned as evidenced by inserting INT and draws labs as directed; Provides basic care functions and treatments (vital signs, daily weights, splints, specimen collection, etc); Provides personal hygiene care for patients;

  • Assists with nutritional and dietary needs of patients;

  • Exhibits technical competence in approved treatments and procedures;

  • Performs phlebotomy and labels blood tubes correctly; Applies simple splints, dressings, and slings for uncomplicated injuries; Reports significant changes to the RN; Receives and issues change of shift report;

  • Patient care areas, including but not limited to patient rooms are clean and organized;

  • Provides patients with a safe environment according to the safety level policy;

  • Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations; Performs EKG promptly and accurately;

  • Transports non monitored patients to diagnostic testing areas and inpatient room; Transports stable monitored patients to diagnostic testing areas and inpatient telemetry and critical care rooms.

  • Initiates admission assessment flow sheet and enters data into the computer.

  • Responds to call lights and patient request promptly. Accurately, promptly and efficiently records vital signs and patient interventions.

  • Records pain score with vital sign check as appropriate.

  • Reports need for repair and service of equipment or supplies to appropriate department, Removes supplies from pyxis appropriately.

  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly work area.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Technician Course preferred.

  • Successful annual completion of hospital administered EKG test.

  • One year clinical related experience preferred (i.e., nursing assistant, medical technician, PCT).

  • EMT experience preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure; Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors; Communicable diseases; Electrical shock; Floor Surfaces; Hot/Cold Temperatures; Indoor/Outdoor conditions; Latex; Lighting; Patient care/handling injuries; Radiation; Shift work; Travel may be required; Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators; environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Additional Details

Title, Salary: min- max/hour, The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.

$16.25-$26.00/hr.
