  • As Enterprise Data Architect (EDA), serves as the subject matter expert in data warehousing.

  • Has responsibility for developing the overall data architecture strategy and leading the design and implementation of scaleable, robust solutions incorporating ETL, data hygiene and business intelligence.

  • Collaborates with application designers to identify and model these integrative views and determine the quality of service requirements ¿ data currency, availability, response times and data volumes.

  • Streamlines data flows and removes unnecessary costs from the complex, fragmented, heterogeneous data architecture that is found in most large enterprises.

  • Is knowledgeable of where data is maintained and accessed throughout the enterprise.

  • Understands the business needs as well as the technology that will be required to meet those needs, with a focus on enterprise-wide data sharing, distribution and integrity issues.

  • Coordinates all enterprise efforts that affect data, with a focus on data that moves through the enterprise.

  • Creates the overall architectural design of the data warehouse.

  • Coordinates and participates in business analysis and requirements definition.

  • Provides recommendations for data cleansing standards and processes.

  • Designs and specifies ETL and other data movement/manipulation processes.

  • Assists in the assessment and analysis of data quality.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field and five years of data warehousing or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of emerging trends in business intelligence.


  • 5+ years of experience in cloud services administration, including provisioning and configuring resources in cloud-based environments (e.g., Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce, Kubernetes) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems.

  • Proficient with API, virtual private clouds (VPC), compute instances, serverless computing, storage, load balancers, and security within AWS. Certification in Amazon Web Services is preferred.

  • Experience with database management and operations, including ETL tools for data mapping, data warehousing, and data pipelining (e.g., AWS Glue, Data Pipeline, Athena, Redshift).

  • Experience with Agile or DevOps, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Automated Testing is preferred.

  • Familiarity with common data models (CDMs) relevant to research informatics, including OMOP, i2b2, PCORI, and healthcare-specific standards like HL7, FHIR is preferred.

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance for and governance of clinical research, including HIPAA, the Common Rule (45 CFR 46), and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Epic’s clinical data warehouses (Clarity and Caboodle) is a plus.

  • Experience developing APIs, RPCs, and clinical application code is a plus.


This role willsit and report within the Goizueta Institute @Emory Brain Health and will:

  • Work with various stakeholders like clinical and research experts and the Office of Information Technology at Emory to identify needs, gather quantifiable requirements, design and implement cloud data platform solutions providing the optimal environment for clinical and research outcomes.

  • Work with internal and external IT teams to review data security compliance for healthcare and research applications, network and cloud infrastructure, and data storage with a good understanding of current and emerging cloud security trends.

  • Monitor changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; implement policy and procedural changes after approval.

  • Participate in vendor selection for the deployment of data solutions as needed.

  • Participate in negotiations and administer contracts with private vendors to provide services.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
