Emory University Fellowship/Associate-Depart of Surgery CT Advanced Robotic Cardiac Sur in Atlanta, Georgia
The goal of the fellowship is to provide specialized training in robot assisted mitral, intracardiac and coronary adult cardiac surgery beyond cardiothoracic surgery residency training beginning in July of 2018. The Robotic Fellow will work at the direction of the Emory Robotic Center Medical Director, Douglas A. Murphy, MD and function at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital. In addition, the fellow will obtain full privileges across the Emory System of Hospitals that perform cardiac surgery.
The Robotic Fellow will receive advanced training in and be responsible for the following knowledge areas and skills sets including, but not limited to:
Treatment of all robotic cardiac surgery, including intracardiac and coronary bypass;
Preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative patient care of complex adult surgical conditions, including major mitral surgery and complex/high risk intra-cardiac surgery;
Serve as co-surgeon on robotic procedures under the direction of the Medical Director and other cardiothoracic surgeons;
Train other cardiothoracic surgery residents and/or fellows on the diagnosis and treatment of complex mitral disease;
Interpretation and assessment of diagnostic imaging studies;
Participation in both emergent and elective mitral robotic intracardiac procedures;
Additional education and scholarly pursuits as determined by the Medical Director to support the mission of the Robotic Center.
