Description

The Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine is looking for a Board-certified general surgeon seeking additional training in trauma/surgical critical care to join our faculty for a one-year non-ACGME fellowship. Applicants of the 2024 Surgical Fellowship Match must submit job applications using the Emory Careers Website. The Emory University Fellowship programs were created to foster the development of high quality fellowships included but not limited to General/GI, Oncology, Transplant, Plastics, Trauma/Surgical Care, and Cardiothoracic Surgery. The Department of Surgery of Emory University at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, is actively seeking a qualified candidate at the PGY6 level for a trauma fellowship position. This is a non-ACGME fellowship position overseen by Jason Sciarretta, MD. Unlike most programs of this type, the first year of the program is spent on the trauma service and involves operative experience with acute vascular, thoracic, and abdominal injuries. Comprehensive care of the injured patient is a major focus, with fellows covering the resuscitation bay, operating room, clinic, and postoperative care. Elective cases include restoration of GI continuity, abdominal wall reconstruction, and spine exposure. Biostatistics training is also available.

When the trauma year is successfully completed, the second year encompasses the ACGME-approved surgical critical care fellowship, which is made up of nine months of ICU rotations in Grady's ICU and three months of critical care electives, including burns and echocardiography.
