Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Coordinates major financial reporting and budgeting activities.

  • Ensures compliance with regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Coordinates the correction of account balances, resolves funding issues and maintains proper accounting controls and procedures.

  • Makes recommendations to management related to long-range financial and cash flow analyses.

  • Prepares and analyzes statistical and financial reports, financial statements and supporting schedules.

  • May assist in preparing, developing and monitoring department/organizational budgets.

  • May maintain grant agreements, policies and guidelines; coordinate grant reporting requirements; review grant funding source compliance; and negotiate grant funding with awarding agencies.

  • May perform indirect cost analysis. May hire, train, and supervise a small staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND REPORTING

  • Analyzes historical accounting data and other information to make projections which will aid management in short- and long-range financial planning.

  • Projects future trends and prepares long-range operational forecasts and cash flow analysis.

  • Analyzes financial statements and prepares and analyzes financial reports to represent current and projected financial status.

  • Surveys, prepares, and analyzes various internal and external financial reports and governmental forms for errors or missing information; works with auditors to ensure accuracy of financial statements.

  • Prepares and analyzes statistical and financial reports, financial statements and supporting schedules.

  • Coordinates action necessary to correct account balances and maintain proper accounting controls and procedures.

  • Assists in year-end audits and ensure the accuracy of accounting data.

  • Supports in presenting regularly with high level School of Medicine and department leadership.

  • Assists in preparing, developing and monitoring budgets.

  • Develops and maintains standardized managed care and various ad hoc reports, as requested.

  • Review of internal processes

  • Analyzes current procedures and assesses efficiency and effectiveness; makes recommendations for improvements to procedures.

  • Coordinates implementation and administration of accounting procedures.

  • Consults with department heads and assists them in implementing procedures.

  • Develops and maintains database to support development of managed care reports; maintains market rate and other relevant pricing information databases.

  • Professional development, training, team management

  • Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.

  • May train others on cost accounting and design of management reports.

  • Provides guidance to staff on applying procedures.

  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.

BASIC SKILLS / OTHER

  • Daily advanced use of Excel functionality with large data sets from multiple sources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field and four years of financial analyst or accounting experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in academic research in higher education or a non-profit organization.

  • Ability to work with cross functional teams.

  • Experience using Oracle, PeopleSoft, and Axiom.

  • Experience in data analytics and financial modeling.

  • Solid work history that consistently demonstrates attention to detail, strong work ethics, and creative problem solver.

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality on all projects and financial issues.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
