MotherToBaby Counselor Needed at Emory University School of Medicine

MotherToBaby Georgia is a service of the non-profit Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS) supported by Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The MotherToBaby counselor will provide evidence-based information to pregnant women, mothers, health care professionals, and the general public about medications and other exposures during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.


Primary responsibilitiesinclude providing information (by telephone, email, or text) about exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding, supporting growth of the service, and participating in OTIS/MotherToBaby education and research initiatives. Other responsibilities include: maintaining program Facebook page; providing presentations, workshops, and in-services; and participating in Teratology Society and OTIS meetings/activities.


Background in health education, genetic counseling, social work, or nursing is required. Master’s degree and two years of experience preferred. Experience in preconception/prenatal counseling and fluency in Spanish are desired. Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience.


  • Develops, conducts and evaluates health education programs.

  • Researches, develops, designs and/or writes health education materials.

  • Develops, conducts and advises related support groups.

  • Develops and implements health education courses; conducts outreach programs.

  • Coordinates publicity for programs, events, and related activities.

  • May facilitate projects or activities related to attaining or maintaining accreditation.

  • Develops and maintains information concerning services pertaining to health education and health concerns.

  • May conduct or participate in research projects related to health issues.

  • Provides skill training related to health issues.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education or a related field and two years of experience in an area related to health education, OR a combination of education, training and experience.
